Why Bars Might Not Be The Best Place To Find A Partner

For the past several decades, bars and clubs have become popular hangouts for singles hoping to connect. Bars are fun, happy places. People use bars to socialize but remember that with socialization at bars comes drinking. Having even a few drinks impairs the ability to reason and think properly. Be careful to maintain your decorum when at a bar.

Those who frequent bars looking for a date may not be looking for a long-term relationship. Many are just looking for temporary companionship. If you want to find someone to have a relationship with a bar is probably not your best choice. Known as pick-up places, most people don't think that others there are looking for a serious relationship so the atmosphere is superficial. Those that are there may be shallow or phony and may not be honest about themselves.

The mood and atmosphere at a bar is usually upbeat and loud. People are drinking and aren't thinking about their real life situations. It is hard to carry on a meaningful conversation over the blare of the music. As a result, most people are attracted to each other at a bar based mainly on looks. This is not the best way to choose a partner. In order to make a relationship you need to have things in common and know things about each other that you can't possibly learn in just a few hours over drinks.

Because everyone is drinking, many people are not using their best judgment when talking to people. Strangers become instant friends. But remember that the same rules that apply in other places should apply at a bar. Talking to strangers should be done in a group setting. Never go off alone with someone you met at a bar. Always stay with the group you came with. If you meet an interesting person get their phone number and call them in a day or two. If you are uneasy about giving out your phone number give your work number so they can't find your home address.

Always use caution when meeting someone at a bar. If you do decide to meet someone at a bar remember that many of these relationships are made based on superficial things such as looks. Take the time to get to know someone better and in another setting, before taking the relationship further.
