Online Chat Rooms: Why They May Not Be So Good To Find Partners

With the advent of the Internet a whole new world has opened up. There are opportunities to meet people that we could never have dreamed of just a few years ago. One of the most popular ways of doing this is the chat room. With real time messages people can literally chat with others as if they are in the same room with them.

There are many different types of chat rooms. Some are for general conversation, others are for special interests and still others are for special ages. There is even some set up especially for finding partners.

Meeting someone in one of these chat rooms is not without risks. The person you are chatting with is in effect a nonentity. You have no real way of telling exactly who they really are. Talk is cheap and especially in these chat rooms, someone can just guild the truth about themselves and you have no way of knowing exactly who they are and what they really want.

There is a certain criminal element that is inevitable on the Internet and this is especially apparent in the chat rooms. The people there can be chatting from all corners of the world and even from prison. Some criminals are looking to catch the unsuspecting person and involve them in some criminal activity. Some of the most notorious cases have been those involving religion and sex offenses.

For a start the Internet is global and you have no idea where in the world the people are from. They are all in the cyber chat room and could be talking from anywhere in the world. This sometimes makes it hard to get to know them before you take the next step.

Once you have been chatting awhile, you may feel that you would like to get to know them better by phoning and if possible meeting them. This is where the risk factor comes into play. You will now need to exercise caution. You have no idea of what they might be hiding.

People misrepresent themselves for various reasons. Apart from the criminal factor as seen above there are also the people who want to cheat on their partners. These people just pretend to be free and in reality are in serious relationships and can even be married. Thy feel that cheating on the Internet is no crime against their partner as it is just in cyberspace. Of course it is easy to cheat online, as their partner may not catch onto them for quite a while.

Here are a few warning signs:

* They do not want you to send them emails-will only communicate in the chat room.
* Withhold, and avoid any personal information-may even change the topic each time you try to ask anything personal.
* Their answers do not seem consistent or may even not sound too genuine.
* They ask a number of personal questions from you without giving any information in return.

Chat rooms are really just for fun and should be regarded in this light. Do not expect a serious relationship to develop from one of these places, it rarely happens. It is a high-risk way of making friends let alone building relationship. Use a lot of caution and bear in mind the risks.

If you do set up a meeting be careful to choose a place that is pretty public, like a restaurant or coffee shop and be sure you let someone know where you are going and what time you will return. It is also a good idea to take a friend along for the first meeting.

So again enjoy yourself but do not be too free. Exercise a little caution and do not expect too much. Remember there are lots of different people in the world and it is just a matter of time before you meet the right partner for you.
